Heidi Hudson to Western Carolina University

Heidi Hudson, the 2023 New Balance Indoor National Champion in the Pentathlon, has decided to continue her academic and athletic career at Western Carolina University, a member of the Southern Conference in NCAA Division I.

Throughout her career at Sumrall High School, Hudson has achieved some astonishing things. A jumps specialist, she is a 4 x MHSAA 4A state champion in addition to being Mississippi state record holder in the indoor and outdoor high jump. Presently, Hudson is the U.S. No. 2 high jumper, with an incredible personal best mark of 5-11 from the 2023 PCS Invitational.

Moreover, she is also the indoor state record holder in the indoor long jump, with a mark of 19-6.25. To top it off, she has added a national championship to her name, taking home the pentathlon title at the 2023 New Balance Indoor National Championships.

"What won me over was how the weights, jumps, and distance coaches work together to supply their athletes with the best training plan, which I believe will be helpful as a multis athlete", stated Hudson on what drew her in to Western Carolina. "I also liked the small-school atmosphere, and the campus location was beautiful. Being from a small town, I felt very at home."

She has proven the sky's the limit, and undoubtedly, she has left her mark on Mississippi track and field.
